This is my all-time favorite MPD book. It made me feel GOOD about myself for a change! It showed me how I was intelligent and creative enough to split when that was the best option available to me and that I can apply that same intelligence and creativity to healing. My goal has always been to integrate fully and I'm nearly there! For any multiples who have yet to experience integration, GO FOR IT. It's AMAZING! You lose nothing, while gaining a lot.
If I could add one gigantic piece of advice for other multiples, it is to pay as much attention to your physical and spiritual needs as you do to your mental and emotional ones. MPD is stressful to the body. My therapist told me, "Everybody who has MPD also has PTSD." Given what it takes to become multiple, I can easily believe that.
The long-term affects of chronic stress and lousy sleep are well known to break down the body, particularly the immune system, so it is likely that adult multiples have gut and autoimmune issues. Fortunately, there is now a lot more info out there about how to successfully heal from these problems than there was when I was diagnosed in 1993.
I started to make real progress with my physical problems (EI/MCS, CFS, Hashimoto's) when I learned about healing my gut biome with naturally fermented foods. A year ago, I needed a walker even in the house. Today, I walk the dog! I've used a lot of internet resources, but the one book that has helped me the most is Root Causes by Dr. Wentz.
