If you take a peek at the 'look inside' feature you may notice that the chapters begin with a poem. I have long felt this to be an added bonus to any read. Especially as I read the contents of the chapter and see the relevance of the poem.
Note: Though this book is not a difficult read, I would strongly suggest a person read it slowly and savor it, with their bible open along side. It's one of 'those' kinds of reads.
In this gem of a book, you will find so many 'keepers' the whole thing will seem to be underlined (if you're as fearless with a pen or pencil as I've become :c) ).
Honestly? I don't know where to start when discussing this book with my friends. One chapter sticks out for me though and that's chapter 18 entitled: The Serenity of Christ. The book is worth the price, for this chapter alone. For me it was sheer bliss. It focused on the song sung during the time just before His crucifixion. The hymn singing is mentioned in Matt 26:30. What stuck out for me was that He sang. Just like in Zephaniah 3:17 "The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing."! That scripture blissed me out the first time I read it too. I also love the speculation of what was sung.
If you are a person who loves to share things that deepen your love for Christ, this book is rife with wonderful thoughts and quotes. Enough so that, I would even recommend a person read it once a year, for years.
Here's one 'keeper' that was an eye opener for me:
"Unlike us, He CHOSE the oblivion of birth and the humiliation of life. He consented not only to die, but to be born... What He gave up was the fullness, power and immunity of a heavenly life." Page 31 I have thought about this off and on for weeks. (emphasis added by me)
This book inspires a person to desire Him and the Word, with renewed fervor. In my honest opinion, I think it's that good.
